PaperToolsProª On a Memory Stick or iPod

 

 

Running PaperToolsProª from a Memory Stick or iPod:

Open the browser before running PaperToolsProª in order to access the Help and Resources dropdown options on the menu bar.

 

Installing to a memory stick:

A memory stick can be used as an external hard drive for both PC and Mac in order to save the installed PaperToolsProª software and database files.  Follow the instructions for installing PaperToolsProª on a computer except choose to put it on a memory stick inserted in a USB 2.0 port.  PaperToolsProª is provided for operation on either a Mac or PC; the same memory stick can be used in either a Mac or PC alternately. The database files you create can also be opened on either a Mac or PC.  Allow  a minimum of 50 MB of memory for the installed program as well as memory for database files and any media files you may download.

 

Installing to an iPod:

An iPod can be used as an external hard drive on a PC or on a Mac computer to use PaperToolsProª.

 

For Mac formatted iPod:

  1. Attach your iPod to your Mac computer and proceed with the installation instructions from the installer. 

 

  1. Choose Application folder on the iPod.  Each time you create a new database file or drag one to your iPod, it must be placed in the Application folder of your iPod.  Make sure you checked the box ÒEnable disk useÓ in the Music setup window of your iPod.

 

If you need to format your iPod for a Mac, do the following:

  1. Open iPod Updater software.  You can find it using Find or Spotlight.  If you do not have it,  download the iPod Updater software onto your computer from www.apple.com/iPod/download.

 

  1. Attach the iPod to a USB 2.0 port.

 

  1. Run the latest downloaded iPod Updater program on your Mac computer.

 

  1. Choose RESTORE from the window.  Warning: Contents of iPod will be erased.

 

  1. Open iTunes for iPod, which you just downloaded.  Choose Preferences >iPod.  Check box for ÒEnable disk use

 

  1. Run the PaperToolsProª installation package and specify the iPod as the target for installation.

 

  1. Now you may begin using PaperToolsProª from your iPod.  Make sure to quit iTune before ejecting your iPod.

 

 

For PC formatted iPod:

To use PaperToolsProª on an iPod accessed on a PC, follow these instructions:

 

If you need to format your iPod for a PC, do the following:

  1. On your PC, download and install the iPod Updater software from www.apple.com/iPod/download. 

 

  1. Attach the iPod to a USB 2.0 port.

 

  1. Run the downloaded iPod Updater program on your PC.

 

  1. Choose RESTORE from the window.  Warning: Contents of iPod will be erased.

 

  1. Run the PTPInstallation.exe program and specify the iPod as the target for installation.

 

  1. Now you may begin using PaperToolsProª from your iPod.

 

 

To use a PC formatted iPod on a Mac computer,

  1. Attach your iPod with PaperToolsProª already installed to a USB 2.0 port.

 

  1. Open iTunes and allow it to recognize and update your iPod.  This may take several minutes. 

 

  1. Pull down the iTunes menu to Preferences and click the iPod icon. Make sure you check the box ÒEnable disk use

 

  1. When the iPod icon appears on the desktop, you are ready to use PaperToolsProª, which has previously been installed on your iPod on a PC.

 

DISCLAIMER:  iTunes library can only be associated with ONE iTunes music library at a time.  If iTunes tries to access a different library when attached to another computer and asks if you want to link iPod to this music library, say ÒNOÓ or else all your original music on your iPod will be erased.
